Buying or selling a house online:

Buying and selling of property in the UK is largely done through Estate Agents who might typically charge between 1.5 and 2.5% of the sale price. Generally the rate is lower if you give sole agency rights. Remember you will enter into a legal contract with your agent, so make sure you understand and comply with the terms of your agreement.

Agents will help you decide on a selling price, but at the end this is your decision. There is no barrier to selling your own property, either online or through traditional advertising means. There is a very good guide to using estate agents on the government's Consumer Direct website.

The process of buying a property will involve your solicitor in carrying out legal searches to verify the ownership and any legal constraints on the property. See our legal legal page for more information on this. Similarly, the process of buying property will very likely involve a survey -more on this under surveys.

If you are after a property to renovate, then Pavillions of Splendour specialises in listed and historic buildings.

For an agency with an ethical agenda, try CoolCaves, or for a specialist search for low energy properties, visit Green Moves. If you are loking further afield, have a look at our page on buying a property abroad.
