There is now a huge choice in the number of service providers. For energy companies with good green credentials, we suggest you look at Ecotricity, Good Energy or Green Energy UK; failing that many energy providers give options on going on to a green tariff.

For an ethical telephone and broadband provider, try The Phone Coop -a consumer cooperative owned entirely by its customers, with a strong ethical and social responsibilty policy.

Energy: Gas and Electricity

  • Atlantic Electric and Gas -part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group.
  • British Gas -their website at includes a lot more than just gas, covering everything from moving home to managing your bills.
  • Countrywide Energy -a subsidiary of Countrywide Farmers, an organisation that has been supplying energy to the farming and rural community since the 1950s.
  • Ecotricity -electricity company dedicated to clean renewable energy such as wind energy.
  • EDF Energy -name for the merged London Electricity and Seeboard Group of companies, including London Energy, Seeboard Energy and SWEB Energy.
  • Eon - includes the former Poergen, Eon are the world's largest investor owned energy company, with around 9 million electricity and gas accounts, and one of the leading names in green generation.
  • Good Energy -supply 100% renewable electricity sourced from the natural energy of wind, sun or running water.
  • Green Energy UK -energy company specialising in renewable technologies.
  • National Energy Foundation -offers advice on using green energy.
  • nPower -the retail arm of RWE npower, a leading integrated UK energy company, part of the RWE Group. RWE npower operates and manages flexible, low-cost coal, oil and gas-fired power stations and are developing innovative energy-related technologies.
  • Scottish Power -Manweb -one of the UK's top three energy distributors, supplying power to over 5m homes.
  • Southern Electric -part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group. Along with Scottish Hydro Electric and SWALEC, they serve over 5 million customers across the UK.
  • Utilita -small company offering electricity, gas and telecoms services.

  • Hometech Integration -company specialising in installation of integrated home technology systems combining audio, internet and TV -.
  • Ofcom -The independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries.
  • Icstis -The regulatory body for the premium rate telecommunications industry -gives advice on the code of standards and on-line complaints procedure.
  • Skype -the leading internet telephony provider.

  • Jersey water -sole provider of treated mains water in Jersey, supplying approximately 90% of the Island's population.
  • Mid Kent Water -supply of drinking water and home emergency products for gas boilers, electrical wiring and plumbing/drainage to Kent
  • Northern Ireland Water Service -provides water and sewerage services to over 730,000 domestic, agricultural, commercial and business customers throughout Northern Ireland
  • Northumbrian Water Ltd -water supplies to Northumbria.
  • Portsmouth Water -customers around the Portsmouth area.
  • Scottish Water -providing water and waste water services to over 2 million customers in Scotland.
  • Severn Trent Water -also responsible for the provision of gas, electricity, telecoms and insurance services.
  • South East Water plc -supplier to 1.5 million people in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.
  • South Staffordshire Water plc -water provider to over one million customers in the Black Country.

  • Sutton and East Surrey Water -water suppliers to approximately 650,000 people in east Surrey, and parts of west Sussex, west Kent and south London.

  • Thames Water Utilities -provides sewage services to thirteen million people and drinking water to eight million people across London and the Thames Valley: from Kent in the east to Gloucestershire in the west.
